This rootin'-tootin' rowdy Rotary rodeo queen had just one message for her peers and for the entire community: It's Rotary Rose Sale time.
The 26th annual Rotary Rose Sale commenced Friday with a Wild West theme chosen by Heidi Rogers, Club President, who is a cowgirl at heart.  The benefits of the Rotary Rose Sale are twofold — someone's day is brightened when they receive a dozen long-stem roses on delivery day and all of the proceeds from the sale benefit a variety of charitable organizations and causes within the community. In the past, Rose Sale funds have helped support the Boys and Girls Club, college scholarships, the Coeur d'Alene food bank, the Kroc Center, Polio Plus, Specialized Needs Recreation and many more.

The roses come in a variety of colors, from deep red to peach to bright fuchsia. Last year, 1,150 dozen roses were sold and delivered to nearly 14,000 people, raising more than $35,000.

"Building a culture of community service in Coeur d'Alene, I've realized, takes many hands working together," Rogers said. "This is why now more than ever I see our community joining forces to build a momentum of taking care of the place where we live, learn, work and play."

Rotary Rose Sale roses are $28 per dozen and will be available early Oct. 21. To order roses, contact Katie Hunt, 818-0300, or email coeurdalenerotary@gmail.com.

In the last five years, the Rose Sale has pulled in nearly $400,000. And along with monetarily supporting these causes, many times roses are delivered to those who utilize their services, such as clients of Tesh, Inc., St. Vincent de Paul and Union Gospel Mission.

In the middle of June, Coeur d'Alene Rotarian
members traveled with a team of 34 from the
Northwest in effort of setting up mobile
medical and dental clinics.
While there, the team also provide many other
services including distributing about 1000 pairs
of shoes. These adjustable shoes filled a gap
when there wasn't an exact pair that fit the child.

Happy New Year,

Your Board of Directors hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and are looking forward to 2014.

As we begin the New Year, the club begins the process of dispersing the funds you have worked so hard to raise. We want all club members to be aware of the grant process so you can promote it in our community.

Coeur d'Alene Rotary Club 2014 Grant Applications for Youth Grants, Local Community Service and International Service will be available on the club website and Facebook by January 8, 2014 and must be submitted by February 13, 2014 by 5:00 PM PST.

The Club will not be offering Civic Improvement Grants this year. Last year, our club, along with Sunrise and Thursday Night clubs, committed to a multi-year award to the Panhandle Parks Foundations for naming rights to the McEuen Park - Harbor House.

New this grant cycle…

1.  The establishment of a Local Community Service Committee, for community needs that did not meet the requirements of youth grants or civic improvement. This committee’s focus is on organizations that provide basic social/welfare needs such as housing and food; health life style choices; enrichment activities including arts, music or cultural events.

2.  For local and international projects to be considered for Rotary International or District Funding, as well as, the paddle raise at our April Auction, funding requests must be submitted through this application process by February 13, 2014 at 5:00pm PST.

3.  A Coeur d'Alene Rotary Grant Workshop will be offered on January 15, 2014 7:30-8:30am University of Idaho Coeur d'Alene 1031 N. Academic Way. The workshop is open to those interested in applying for club grants.

In the last five years, Rotary Club of Coeur d’Alene and Foundation have awarded $425,890 in community and international grants and donations.

The following resources will be on  the  club website and Facebook

1.    2014 Grant applications

2.    List of committees and member assignments

3.    List of recipients of our charitable donations for the last 5 years

Wishing all of you a healthy and happy 2014!

Coeur d'Alene Rotarians are known for their continuous and generous support to our community through grant gifts and rotary sponsored projects. Coeur d'Alene Police Chief Wayne Longo recently expressed his gratitude to Rotarians on the behalf of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.
